Sample Design Sketches PLAN SKETCHES These sample design sketches show a three story home built east of Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho several years ago. Typically a set of sketches consists of a floor plan for each level and four exterior elevations. As the initial design progresses, alternative roof designs, stairs, window placements, and materials are explored. A project has to be designed before it can be built; not as its being built. Some people are good decision-makers and arrive at a design quickly, while others take their time and explore various design features and sizes before they make up their minds. Design is an open-ended process.
